Traveling to the Vet With Cats

Providing good health care, especially preventive care, can allow your cats to have longer, and more comfortable lives. This cannot happen unless they see the veterinarian for needed care. Many cats dislike going to the veterinarian, and that starts with the difficulty of getting the cat into the carrier.
Here are some helpful tips on how to make trips to the vet easier on your cat and yourself:

• Train your kitty early on
• Make the carrier familiar at home by leaving it in a room where your cat spends a lot of time in
• Place familiar items, such as towels and toys in the carrier
• Consider a synthetic feline facial pheromone (Feliway)
• Provide positive reinforcement by giving your cat a treat when they go inside or near the carrier
• Consider taking very short trips with your cat in the carrier, just up the driveway and back
• Be patient
